I am an Istanbul-based writer who specializes in travel and stories at the intersection of culture and politics in Eastern Europe and the Middle East. My work has appeared in National Geographic, The Guardian, The Daily Beast, The Independent, BBC Travel, Cornucopia Magazine, and PRI, among other places. I updated the Istanbul chapter of the most recent Fodor’s Essential Turkey travel guide. My blog Katrinka Abroad combines personal essays with analog photography.

I also write regularly about work, workers, and the workplace for SHRM (The Society for Human Resource Management). My articles explore cryptocurrency, urban planning, entrepreneurship, elder rights, surveillance, and other topics, and cover countries all over the world.
